A popular version of this “4-ingredient slow cooker chicken” recipe is incredibly simple and produces tender, flavorful shredded chicken.
Ingredients
- 2–3 raw chicken breasts
- 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
- 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese
- ½ cup chicken broth
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Place the raw chicken breasts in the bottom of your slow cooker.
- Sprinkle the ranch seasoning evenly over the chicken.
- Add the chicken broth.
- Place the cream cheese on top (don’t stir).
- Cover and cook:
- Low: 6–7 hours, or
- High: 3–4 hours,
until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- Shred the chicken with two forks.
- Stir in the cream cheese until smooth, then mix in the shredded cheddar.
- Serve over rice, pasta, baked potatoes, or on sandwich buns.
Why it works
- Slow cooking gently cooks the chicken, keeping it moist and easy to shred.
- Chicken broth prevents the chicken from drying out.
- Cream cheese melts into a rich, creamy sauce.
- Ranch seasoning adds herbs, garlic, onion, and savory flavor with almost no prep.
- Cheddar cheese adds extra creaminess and a cheesy finish.
This recipe takes about 5 minutes to assemble, and the slow cooker does the rest.
