Recipe

Put raw chicken breasts in a slow cooker with these 4 ingredients. It’s pure magic.

A popular version of this “4-ingredient slow cooker chicken” recipe is incredibly simple and produces tender, flavorful shredded chicken.

Ingredients

  • 2–3 raw chicken breasts
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Place the raw chicken breasts in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  2. Sprinkle the ranch seasoning evenly over the chicken.
  3. Add the chicken broth.
  4. Place the cream cheese on top (don’t stir).
  5. Cover and cook:
    • Low: 6–7 hours, or
    • High: 3–4 hours,
until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  6. Shred the chicken with two forks.
  7. Stir in the cream cheese until smooth, then mix in the shredded cheddar.
  8. Serve over rice, pasta, baked potatoes, or on sandwich buns.

Why it works

  • Slow cooking gently cooks the chicken, keeping it moist and easy to shred.
  • Chicken broth prevents the chicken from drying out.
  • Cream cheese melts into a rich, creamy sauce.
  • Ranch seasoning adds herbs, garlic, onion, and savory flavor with almost no prep.
  • Cheddar cheese adds extra creaminess and a cheesy finish.

This recipe takes about 5 minutes to assemble, and the slow cooker does the rest.
