Sausage Egg Breakfast Casserole

Here’s a hearty Sausage Egg Breakfast Casserole that’s easy to prepare and great for serving a group.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups (480 ml) milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • 6 cups cubed bread (day-old bread works best)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Brown the sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into crumbles. Drain excess grease.
  4. Spread the bread cubes evenly in the baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle the cooked sausage over the bread, then top with the shredded cheese.
  6. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  7. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread, sausage, and cheese.
  8. Let the casserole sit for 10–15 minutes so the bread absorbs the liquid. For even better texture, cover and refrigerate overnight, then bake the next morning.
  9. Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until the center is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.
  10. Let rest for 5–10 minutes, garnish with parsley if desired, and serve.
