Here’s a hearty Sausage Egg Breakfast Casserole that’s easy to prepare and great for serving a group.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups (480 ml) milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
- 6 cups cubed bread (day-old bread works best)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Brown the sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into crumbles. Drain excess grease.
- Spread the bread cubes evenly in the baking dish.
- Sprinkle the cooked sausage over the bread, then top with the shredded cheese.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread, sausage, and cheese.
- Let the casserole sit for 10–15 minutes so the bread absorbs the liquid. For even better texture, cover and refrigerate overnight, then bake the next morning.
- Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until the center is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.
- Let rest for 5–10 minutes, garnish with parsley if desired, and serve.
